Eighteen students were reportedly made to boycott classes at a government primary school in Shiroda constituency on Tuesday, while their parents have decided to stage a dharna along with students in front of the school on Wednesday morning to demand the transfer of a teacher.
Parents have been demanding the transfer of a teacher who was appointed 3-4 months ago at the government primary school.
Earlier, parents had submitted representations to Chief Minister and Education Minister Pramod Sawant, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Education Director and Ponda Taluka Divisional Education Officer two months ago demanding the transfer of the teacher to another school.
According to the aggrieved parents, there were two teachers in the government primary school, which included a para teacher. As a school in the area was closed, the department transferred that teacher to the school in Shiroda constituency in August and the para teacher was sent to another school.
But after the new teacher took charge, the students started complaining to their parents. The parents then wrote to authorities concerned to demand transfer of the teacher.
But since the teacher has not been transferred as yet, the parents convened a meeting on Monday night and decided not to send their children to school on Tuesday. Accordingly, all 18 students boycotted the class on Tuesday. Parents have also decided to stage a dharna along with students in front of the school on Wednesday morning.
The parents submitted a representation to the Assistant District Education Officer again on Tuesday morning.
The parents have decided not to send the students to school until their demand is fulfilled and have threatened to intensify their agitation if the education department does not consider their demand seriously.
