The State government has decided to rope in Swayampurna Mitras to assist Persons with Disabilities across Goa for the International Purple Fest-Goa 2024, scheduled in Goa from January 8 to 13.
The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who subsequently apprised Swayampurna Mitras about various sessions at the event that would focus on different types of disabilities, guiding participants on effectively facing and managing challenges. Special sessions are also scheduled to be held for the parents of PwDs.
“Last year's Purple Fest was a revelation. Discussions about this event spread not only in Goa but across the country. I encourage the Swayampurna Mitras to actively engage in their communities to identify disabled individuals and assist them in obtaining a UDID card. The card will facilitate access to necessary equipment, aligning with Goa’s commitment to supporting the disability community,” he said while addressing the attendees.
Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai, also present at the meeting, highlighted the significance of Purple Fest stating it serves as a crucial platform for raising awareness about various government schemes and enlightens people about the diverse facilities and support services offered.
MLA-Curtorim Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco emphasized the government’s commitment to provide necessary equipment to PwDs with a 40 per cent disability certificate and a minimum monthly income of Rs 22,500 whereas Goa State Commissioner for PwDs Guruprasad Pawaskar gave a comprehensive presentation unveiling activities during the event.
