Goans need not travel outside the state now to avail specialised Therapeutic Plasma Exchange therapy as it will be now made available at GMC itself, informed Dr Bandekar.
Goa Medical College has purchased Rs 40 lakh worth Therapeutic Plasma Exchange machine which will aid in providing this therapy at the state run hospital. The therapy is used for purifying blood by removing toxins responsible for several serious ailments.
Dr Bandekar also reiterated that most Covid patients at GMC with serious Covid-related illnesses are non-vaccinated. “Of 15 patients in ICU only 3 are vaccinated. Vaccinated patients in ICU are not having severe Covid induced ailments but suffering from other co-morbidities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Universal Immunisation Programme for pregnant women and children will be carried out in Goa in the second phase from April to May along with 21 other states.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 virtually in presence of health officials of various states and Union Territories.
In the first round (Feb-April 2022), 11 states will conduct IMI 4.0. The other 22 states including Goa will conduct the rounds from April to May.
