Traffic cops announce one way at Calangute to beat New year rush

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic North Panaji has informed that the Calangute and Baga being the major tourist destinations in North Goa District, every year large number of tourists with their vehicles visit these areas for celebrating Christmas and New Year festivities.  As a result there will be heavy movement of vehicles (especially tourist) in the coastal areas. 

In order to streamline the vehicular flow and to ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic, the below mentioned stretch of roads will be made as One Way for the period from December 30 to January 3.

All vehicular traffic moving from St Alex Church to Calangute- Baga Junction via St Anthony Chapel, all vehicular traffic proceeding from Baga-Calangute junction up to Government Primary School, traffic plying from Government Primary School up to Fat Fish Junction, vehicular traffic plying from Joa de Mar Resort up to Piety Chapel, Baga and  vehicular traffic will not be allowed to enter towards CCT from La Calypso junction. These vehicles will have to take route from Arpora Bridge to respective destinations.

Similarly, the entry and movement of heavy/medium vehicles (buses, mini buses, tempos) will be restricted in the said area. All such vehicles desiring to enter Calangute “Baga area will be parked at the outskirts of Calangute-Baga.

The below mentioned temporary parking spaces have been earmarked as Parking Places for tourist vehicles in consultation with Calangute and Arpora Village Panchayats. At Arpora open space at Saturday Night Bazar, near Bodke Wadakade, Porbowado in barren fields in Survey Nos. 375/5, 375/6, 375/7, 375/8, 375/9, 375/10, 375/11, 375/12, 375/13, 375/14 and 375/15 of village of Calangute, near Poriat Cross in Survey No. 169/21 of village of Calangute, at Baga end, open field of Pradip Sahani, near Hummerez Club, open space opposite Hummerez Club at Baga end and Sinquerim Helipad parking space.

The motorists and general public are requested to co-operate and follow the directions given by the Traffic Police during the above period and to park vehicles at designated places only.
