PANAJI: In a first since the launch of Goa’s free IVF treatment scheme, Goa Medical College (GMC) has successfully delivered triplets.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced the development today, confirming that the mother and all three babies, a boy (2.32 kg) and two girls (1.77 kg and 1.525 kg), are healthy and stable. The delivery was conducted via Caesarean section at GMC.
"This is a moment of pride and joy that reflects hope and medical excellence," Rane posted on social media platform X, commending the IVF Centre team for their efforts in navigating the complex pregnancy.
Launched on September 1, 2023, Goa’s IVF scheme is the first of its kind in the country to offer assisted reproductive treatment entirely free of cost at a government hospital. The program aims to support couples facing infertility by eliminating the financial burden typically associated with such procedures.
The Health Minister also praised the medical team’s dedication and expertise, calling the successful outcome a “testament to compassionate care and commitment to public health.”
