The Crime Branch on Monday arrested two students from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly peddling drugs in Calangute.
Srinivasa Gundapaneni and Jaswanthsai, both aged 23 years and residents of Prakasem (AP) were caught red-handed with Ganja worth Rs 70,400.
Both had arrived in Goa five days ago and lived in rented premises in the coastal belt. They will be produced before the local court for police remand on Tuesday and interrogated to know the source of the drugs.
Vasco police, meanwhile, conducted a narcotic raid outside the Vasco railway station and arrested a person from Uttar Pradesh on charges of possessing ganja weighing about 7.3 kgs worth Rs 7 lakh.
Police said Tilakdhari Yadav (34) had arrived by the Patna express and was later arrested under the NDPS Act.
The Goa police and the Crime Branch of late have registered several cases of drug-related offenses, particularly in the last two months after the deaths of BJP leader Sonali Phogat and a Puducherry student due to a suspected drug overdose.
Apart from dozens of arrests in the State and with neighbouring police hot on the heels of drug dealers, narcotic substances worth lakhs of rupees have also been seized in the war on drugs.
