Two Goan youth killed in Lonavala car-truck collision

PANAJI: Two youth from Goa were killed in a head-on collision after their car crashed into a mini truck near Lion’s Point in Lonavala early this morning.

The victims, 21-year-old Yogesh Sutar and 24-year-old Mayur Vengurlekar, both from Mapusa, were part of a 14-member group visiting the hill station for a picnic. Police said the car is believed to have been speeding when it collided with the truck before dawn.

Local residents who came across the wreck alerted authorities. “The impact was severe; both occupants died on the spot due to multiple injuries,” an officer from Lonavala City Police Station said. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and will be handed over to their families.

The truck driver, who sustained injuries, is reported to be stable. “A case has been registered against the truck driver, and his statement will be recorded once he is discharged,” the officer added.
