PORVORIM
The electricity department at Porvorim has completed and commissioned the first phase of laying the underground power cable in parts of Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca in Porvorim area.
Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Subhash Parsekar said the official inauguration of the project did not take place due to the pandemic.
“There are many trees in and around Porvorim and during the rains, power supply would frequently get disrupted when trees and branches fell on electricity wires. Hence, the electricity department decided to lay an underground power cable in Porvorim at a cost of Rs 34 crore.”
“Work on the second phase of laying the underground power cable will soon begin in 11 wards of Socorro and parts of Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca villages.”
He informed that work on the second phase of laying the underground power cable was tendered a long time ago after getting financial approval from the State government.
“At a recent meeting, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral had directed us to re-tender the work after including some additional work in the project. Accordingly, revised estimates were prepared and work on the second phase to lay the underground power cable will be tendered soon,” said Parsekar.
