MARGAO
Margao police rushed to Malbhat-Margao following an uproar on Thursday morning after shop keepers protested against the builder for allegedly blocking passages and toilets meant as a common amenity in the building.
Agitated traders have threatened to gherao Margao municipal officials on Friday to ensure that the common amenities are all kept open for use by the shop owners and the public.
Trouble arose around 11 am when the builder and the shop owners, who had purchased the shops from the builder, were scheduled to meet to resolve all issues concerning the premises.
The shop keepers claimed that since the builder nor his representative turned up for the meeting, they decided to open the passages, which were blocked by placing flower pots.
A shop owner Ashraf Pandiyal told the media that all the shop owners will gherao the Margao Municipal officials for not paying heed to their complaints made in recent times.
Former Margao Municipal chairperson Savio Coutinho said the builder should leave the common amenities for use by the shop owners and members of the public as per the rules in force.
