Use Porvorim cyclone shelter as Covid care centre: Khaunte

PORVORIM

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, requesting him to use the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) at Porvorim as a Covid care centre in preparation of the third Covid wave.

In his letter, Khaunte has said that the MPCS and fire station at Porvorim are due for completion on May 31.

Khaunte said stated the State government should consider converting the MPCS into a specialised Covid care centre, with a separate paediatric unit/wing.

“This centre should be equipped with necessary infrastructure, staff, medical professionals and medicines which will ensure that all medical emergencies in and around the constituency can be attended with minimum turnaround time.”

“These facilities can be provided by the government or in the alternative, the same can be sourced through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of private companies. This will additionally ensure that the government or health department are not overburdened with area wise expenses,” stated Khaunte.

The Porvorim MLA has pledged complete support of all his resources to the Covid cause and has appealed to the chief minister to immediately act on his recommendations which would help the government strategise for the third wave and also help bring down the Covid count in the State.

Khaunte said the opening of the fire station at Porvorim with all infrastructure facilities, vehicles and machinery will also ensure readiness of Porvorim constituency to tackle any calamities or similar events.
