Velus Ravalnath devasthan dispute: Cops open 2nd lock

VALPOI

The Valpoi police officers on Tuesday broke the second lock attached by an unknown to the door and the entrance of the Velus Ravalnath Devasthan.

It may be recalled that there has been a dispute between the Gaonkar and the Gurav groups over the Velus Ravalnath Devasthan for the last two months.

Amid the tense situation on the day of Dussehra, the then mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas had locked the door of the temple.

Later, while hearing the dispute over the issue, it was ordered that the door should be opened and the keys of the temple door be given to the worshipers of the temple. However, this order was strongly objected to by the Gaonkars.

While implementing this order, the present mamlatdar Kaushik Desai opened the door and provided the keys to the Guru Samaj.

The enraged Gaonkars had expressed their indignation over this. The incident took place on Friday.

On the same night, an unknown had locked the door and the entrance of the temple with another lock and giving a twist to the dispute. Later, it was demanded that the incident should be investigated and action should be taken against the unknown. This raised the question of whether the government would take action against the person involved in locking the door.

However, around 6 am on Tuesday, the Valpoi police officers broke the second lock at the place and opened the door of the temple. The Gurav community expressed satisfaction and happiness.

Meanwhile, after getting information about this, the congregation of Gurav and Gaonkar community had gathered in the premises of the temple. However, a large number of police escorts were deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The Gaonkars expressed disappointment saying that they are being treated unfairly with regard to the rights of the temple.
