Vilas Methar murder case: Another businessman held, arrests rise to seven

Porvorim police arrested businessman Shailesh Shetty (46) in connection with the murder of social activist Vilas Methar. He is the seventh person to be arrested in the case.

According to reports, Shailesh aka Shailu Ravindra Shetty of Alto Porvorim was arrested on Tuesday night and sources said the vehicle used by two suspects, Pawan Badigar and Prashant Dabholkar, to escape to Maharashtra belonged to Shetty and hence, he was arrested in the connection.

Incidentally, Shetty had been recently arrested in a rave party case and he was out on bail.

It may be recalled that Vilas Methar was waylaid and set ablaze on the afternoon of October 14, at Torda, Porvorim. Methar succumbed to the burn injuries at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim a day later.

The six other accused arrested in the case are Santosh Pillai (29), Altaf Yargatti (37), Khayyad Sheikh (35), Pawan Badigar (30), Prashant Dabholkar (36) and Ikbal Nanpuri (31).

PI Ninad Deoulkar is further investigating the case.
