Wheelchair delayed for injured student at SGDH over ID card

MARGAO

South Goa District hospital was in the news again on Monday --- this time over the delay in making available a wheel chair to an injured student in the casualty and staff insisting on hard copy of ID card.

The incident occurred when a teacher of a special school rushed to the district hospital after a student sustained injuries after a bench fell on him.

The teacher accompanying the student claimed that when they reached the hospital, they had to wait for nearly 10 minutes for a wheelchair.

At the time of registration, the teacher said she had no money with her since she had rushed to the hospital without carrying her purse.

Her ordeal did not end there.  At the time of the X-ray, the teacher was asked to produce the ID card. When she tried to show the ID card from her cell phone, the staffer insisted for a hard copy of the ID.

While the teacher showered praises on the doctors for taking good care of the student, she said that similar support was not forthcoming from the hospital staff. "I was communicating with the hospital staff in Konkani to send a message that I am a Goan. But, they insisted on formalities rather than immediately attending to the student. This should not happen. I hope the hospital administration takes note of the episode and take corrective measures, the teacher added.
