Uncertainty over the commencement of the sewage treatment plant (STP) has forced the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to set up an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to treat waste water in Mapusa market.
The engineering department of the civic body has invited an expression of interest from interested companies to set up the ETP for a capacity of 40 KLD in the municipal market.
The ETP is basically to treat untreated effluents and sewage outfalls from the four public/community toilets in the market, mutton and chicken shops, fish market and beef/pork complex situated in the market.
“The MMC is implementing a programme to treat the untreated effluent of four public/community toilets, fish market, mutton and chicken shops and beef/pork complex and also where proper network of drainage water collection is not available,” a public notice said.
The ETP will come up in the available open space between the Sulabh toilet and the beef stalls in the municipal market.
“The council has already taken a resolution to construct the ETP to treat the waste water from the toilets, fish market, beef and other stalls in the market area. After getting details from eligible companies we will prepare the estimate tender documents,” said MMC Municipal Engineer Hussain Muzawar.
According to the municipal engineer, it’s a small unit which requires an area of just 5x5 sq mt.
The interested companies will have to submit the details by February 1 while the expression of interest will be opened on February 3.
