Reacting to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte’s statement in the Assembly that the Gram Sabha of Se Old Goa had given approval for the Heritage Interpretation Centre (HIC) under the PRASAD scheme, local activist Glen Cabral said no such approval was given and that, a resolution was passed that it should be kept on hold.
"It appears that the tourism minister was misinformed by the officials," Cabral said.
Addressing reporters at Azad Maidan, Panaji on Thursday, Cabral said officials of the GTDC had only informed about amenities to be built in Old Goa ahead of the Exposition.
"They never mentioned anything about a building. We were informed about amenities like re-tarring of roads, benches, CCTVs, water facilities, drainage system, etc," Cabral informed and added that the Gram Sabha had advised that they should first seek permission from Church authorities and then come back again to the panchayat for approval.
"Till that time, we had asked them to keep the project on hold. But after that, we did not hear anything and suddenly now they are saying that the project was approved by the Gram Sabha, which is totally wrong," Cabral said.
