‘Oppn fails to nail health minister for goofing up on Covid management'

MAPUSA

Pointing fingers at his own party MLAs, Porvorim Congress Block President Shankar Phadte on Thursday said the opposition has compromised with a section of the ruling party as none of the opposition MLAs have demanded the health minister’s resignation for goofing up over the Covid management in the State.

“During the Covid crisis, a reputed doctor exposed a scam in ventilator purchase which went viral on social media and was condemned by every Goan. But surprisingly, the opposition MLAs did not say a word nor demanded an inquiry into the scam. It seems the opposition is giving a cordoned exit to the Health Minister,” Phadte said.

He said the health minister was trying to draw sympathy by demanding a High Court inquiry in the issue over the death of patients due to oxygen supply mismanagement at the GMC.

“As an executive arm forming part of the cabinet, the Health Minister should have stepped down at that very moment and ask his chief minister to set up an inquiry if he was not guilty,” he said.

He further said the opposition MLAs should have mounted pressure and placed accountability on the health minister and demanded his resignation.

He said the ruling party MLAs were seen taking up the issue and their aides filing complaints of criminal negligence against the health minister.

“The setting between the opposition and a section of the ruling can be readily inferred and is obvious,” he said.

He said the opposition, including the Goa Forward, MGP and the Independent MLA, were making statements in the air only to remain in the limelight, to get the attention of the people and to fool the public.
