Goa’s hotel sector continues to experience a mixed performance with concerns over the occupancy rates in city hotels.
Excluding the high-end, corporate-linked starred properties, city hotels are reportedly struggling to fill rooms and occupancy levels are at barely 50 per cent.
On the flip side, beachside properties are seeing higher demand nearing full capacity. The influx of visitors is largely attributed to the ongoing party season and an increase in tie-ups with casinos, which have become a major draw for tourists.
President of the Goa Hotel & Restaurant Association Gaurish Dhond confirmed the current status. While he acknowledged that the last eight days of the year are expected to bring full occupancy, he stated this surge is part of an annual trend.
“It’s the same every year. The last few days of the year always see full capacity but we are facing a bigger challenge in maintaining consistent occupancy throughout the year. There is no longer an off-season or on-season in Goa, the industry needs stability year-round,” he said.
