Milind Salunke is the new Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat of Aquem-Baixo.
In the elections held on Wednesday, Salunke was declared elected unopposed after the Presiding Officer received his lone nomination paper for the vacant post.
The post of Aquem Baixo Sarpanch had fallen vacant after then Sarpanch Danny Fernandes was elected as the Zilla Panchayat member of the Davorlim constituency. Since December, the post has been lying vacant. It was only recently, after the State Election Commission had held the by-poll for the seat left vacant after the resignation of panchayat member Danny Fernandes, that the Director of Panchayats decided to fill up the vacant post of Sarpanch.
