Fourth postponement of Colva site inspection sparks outcry

Colva villagers assembled for the site inspection of the bungalows on Wednesday.

MARGAO
Colva villagers cried foul after the inspection called by the Colva village Panchayat of the bungalows could not take place on Wednesday.

What left the villagers agitated was that this is the fourth time that an inspection fixed by the Panchayat was postponed for reasons unknown.

Colva-based social activist Judith Almeida informed that the Panchayat inspection could not take place since the Panchayat members turned up late. She said officials of the TCP department, who reported for the inspection on time, left the venue since the Panchayat members and officials did not report on time. Officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) also played truant, she added.

Almeida said the villagers were insisting on the site inspection for the simple reason that the project proponent will soon apply for an occupancy certificate. “It is indeed shocking and surprising that a site inspection of these bungalows has not taken place for the fourth time now. It appears that it is not the will of the local people, but the power of the outsider builders prevails in Goa,” she added.
