Police round up migrant workers in Margao verification drive

Migrant daily wage workers at the Margao police station after they were detained for verification.

MARGAO
The Margao police have initiated a drive against daily wage migrant workers soliciting work behind the Margao Municipal building, near the Khareband Bridge and the Rawanfond junction. Police informed that they have rounded up around 20 workers to check their antecedents and ascertain whether they have filled up the tenant verification forms.

Margao Police Station in-charge, PI Arun Desai, informed that the police have initiated the drive since they have come across a huge number of migrant daily wage workers assembling at the three places every day. “The drive has been initiated to verify their antecedents and to find out whether they or their landlords have filled up the tenant verification forms,” he said.

Reminding that it is an offence to lease out any room on rent to a tenant without filling up the stranger roll forms, PI Desai warned landlords of stern action if they are found violating the law.
