The war of words between the BJP and Congress continues with President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Amit Patkar responding to BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade’s accusations, asserting that Tanavade "lacks credibility".

Patkar demanded an apology from Tanavade to South Goa candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes over allegations of insulting the constitution and democracy.

Patkar recounted an incident where the former Navy officer played a key role in resolving a misunderstanding at St Jacinto Island which was followed by the Navy and islanders jointly hoisting the Indian National flag on the eve of Independence Day, August 14, 2021.

During a press conference at the Congress headquarters on Wednesday, the GPCC President insisted that Tanavade should apologise for his critical remarks pointed towards Fernandes. “Fernandes significantly contributed to the flag hoisting at St Jacinto, unlike in the case of Tanavade who doesn’t know how to hold an Indian flag correctly,” he added.

Claiming that the BJP has been unsettled by the huge response to the Congress during the ongoing election campaign, Patkar further accused the BJP and Tanavade of not resolving issues such as inflation, unemployment, corruption, crime, environmental degradation, Mhadei water diversion, drug abuse, prostitution, gambling, and murder, which prevail in the State.
