Sounding a warning to Goans, INDIA bloc’s North Goa candidate Ramakant Khalap has said that the Constitution of India is under threat.

Khalap also said that the Constitution and Preamble of India were supreme and that citizens had to abide by its principles.

“When I filed my nomination papers, I had to swear on the Constitution. When I become an MP tomorrow, I will have to pledge to the Constitution again. Now, attempts are being made to destroy the principles of the Constitution. I urge you all to beware,” Khalap said.

He also said that there are attempts being made to create fissures among people in the name of the Congress Party.

“We worship the Earth and nature, the creation of God Almighty, and through that worship, we worship the creator himself or herself. I find God in temples and churches. This is our unity and this is our Bharat. Our political parties should take a pledge that will protect this country and this unity,” he emphasised.

Khalap was speaking at a meeting held of various groups comprising SCs and STs, non-Christians, and people of the minority community at Mapusa.

Vikas Waghmare a representative of the ST asked the various community representatives of SC, ST and OBC etc to support Khalap and not to get influenced by bribes for votes from the ruling party, and ensure that votes are not split due to the B team of the BJP who is contesting this election.

Social activist Tara Kerkar said that attempts are being made to stifle free speech.

“Chief minister Pramod Sawant has created divisions among the Bhandari Samaj, ST community, Marathi community, temple managements, mining, etc, and he is misguiding people while indulging in corruption. We have never seen enmity among Hindus and Muslims, but he has got people who are doing this,” Kerkar said.

Among the issues that the meeting discussed included recognition and representation for the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes at the federal, state, and local levels, and providing security for churches and the Christian community.

Shripad is a non-performing asset: Ferreira

Aldona MLA and coordinator for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat, Carlos Ferreira termed the incumbent North Goa member of Parliament Shripad Naik as a “non-performing asset” for his poor performance.

“There is an MP who is a NPA – non-performing asset. He does not talk in Parliament on behalf of Goa. He has been a minister as well. When you are a central minister, the finance of that ministry is in your hands. But he didn’t do anything for Goans, not even in job creation. MPLAD funds are given for small works, not major development. What projects he has to show the people, what kind of ancillary jobs has he created?” Ferreira said.

Ferreira urged the voters to vote for Congress candidate Ramakant Khalap, who has a stellar performance as a 6-time MLA, deputy chief minister, opposition leader, MP and Union minister.

“This is the time to send a person to Parliament who will work for the people, not someone who will go for time pass. Where is the Acche Din? The price of gas cylinders has gone up, there is no sign of the free 3 cylinders. There is no development of the people. It is time to send the sitting MP home. Congress always works for the people,” he said.
