A fight between inmates at Colvale Central Jail on Wednesday evening left one prisoner injured and prompted the prison administration to file a police complaint.
The incident occurred around 6:30 pm, during dinner when prisoners were taken out of their barracks. Seemanchal Parida reportedly went to an upper cell area, where he got into an argument with fellow inmates Manthan Chyari, Babu Bhalekar, and Sagar Patil. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to sources, the accused inmates, allegedly aided by others, assaulted Parida with batons, knocking him to the ground. Prison staff intervened and rescued him. Parida was initially admitted to Mapusa District Hospital and later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital for treatment of a head injury.
Following the incident, the prison administration filed a complaint with the Colvale police, registering a cross-complaint against both the injured inmate and the three accused. Police sources said the complaint lacked sufficient details and have instructed the authorities to submit a comprehensive report before a formal case can be registered.
Police confirmed that further investigation and legal action will proceed once a detailed complaint is received.
