Delivering equitable and quality healthcare in proportion to the country’s population has become an urgent necessity, said Dr (Col) Dayanand, Medical Director of the KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre. He noted that nearly 60 per cent of skilled healthcare professionals are concentrated in metros and tier-two cities, leaving a similar proportion of rural residents underserved. Bridging this gap, he emphasised, can only be achieved through science and technology.

He was speaking at a programme to mark World Health Day at the hospital. Stressing the need to “stand with science for better health,” he said the institution is committed to reaching the last person through technological advancements. Initiatives such as a paperless system, telemedicine services, and the “KLE Mitra” software have been introduced to expand access to care. He also announced that April has been declared “Cleanliness Month,” during which special efforts will be made to maintain hospital hygiene.

Dr M V Jali, Chief Medical Consultant at the KAHER Peripheral Hospital, highlighted that the hospital’s primary goal is to reduce disparities in healthcare access between rural and urban areas by leveraging scientific innovations. He called for collective efforts to build a sustainable and equitable healthcare system.

Dr Madhav Prabhu, Director of Clinical Services, pointed out the prevalence of superstitions in North Karnataka regarding diseases such as cancer and infertility. Many people still attribute illnesses to past karma and resort to unscientific treatments, he said, urging the promotion of scientific awareness. He advised patients to seek timely, evidence-based treatment instead of delaying care.

The programme was attended by several senior doctors and administrators.
