Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said he has been assured that the six-lane elevated corridor at Porvorim would be ready by October.

Khaunte said he had chaired a meeting with officials of the Public Works Department (NH), Water Resources Department, electricity, sewerage and the Police on Monday, to review work on the elevated corridor.

“Once this flyover is commissioned, traffic congestion in Porvorim will be reduced, and traffic signals will also start functioning properly,” said Khaunte.

He was speaking in Porvorim after launching several developmental works such as construction of compound wall, drains, footpaths, restoration and widening of roads, etc, in the presence of Penha de Franca ZP Sandeep Phaldessai, Socorro ZP Amit Asnodkar, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar and panch members of Penha de Franca, Salvador do Mundo and Socorro.

Stating that the population of Porvorim has been growing as many government offices have been shifted there, Khaunte said it has been decided to upgrade the 15 MLD water treatment plant to 17.5 MLD to meet the water requirement of the population.

The minister further mentioned that internal roads were damaged during the laying of electricity cables and sewage works, as they were dug up for drains, rendering them unmotorable.

“Once the works of widening of roads, restoration of roads, construction of drains, etc., are completed, hotmixing of roads in all three panchayats will be taken up and completed before monsoon,” said Khaunte.
