PANAJI: The 16-year-old boy booked in the fatal hit-and-run at Carmarkhajan, Mapusa, yesterday evening will face proceedings before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).

In a press statement issued a while ago, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said a report against the Child in Conflict with Law will be sent to the JJB.

Mapusa Police have already arrested the rider's father Shabbir Sheikh (48), and pillion rider Rihan Sheikh (18), both of whom were reportedly aware that the minor was unlicensed.

The incident occurred at around 7:45 pm when the minor, allegedly riding a motorcycle without a licence, knocked down 12-year-old Akanshaya Boro, who was walking along the road. The victim later died while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Mapusa.

According to SP Gupta, the minor and pillion rider fled the scene without offering assistance. The motorcycle was later relocated in an alleged attempt to conceal evidence of the accident.

The two adults have been booked under Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), 105, 45, and 46 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The case has also been forwarded to the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa.
