A one-time settlement scheme 2020 for defaulted power consumers was launched on Monday by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral at a function at the Secretariat in Porvorim on Monday.

Under the scheme, defaulted consumers have been given a one month period from the launch date for applying under the OTS scheme to avail benefit of the same.

The government has outstanding electricity bills of Rs 400 crores from various consumers with pending delay payment charges adding up to Rs 91 crores. To recover this huge outstanding without any legal hindrances, the government has launched the OTS scheme.

To facilitate and make people aware of the scheme, special counters have been set up at sub-division offices.

Power consumers who pay the outstanding amounts within two months will get a waiver in delayed payment charge.

Informing that some of the electricity bills have been pending for the last 30 years, the CM said it would have taken another 10 years to recover the electricity bills if the OTS scheme was not launched and the added that the launch of the One-time Settlement Scheme 2020 by Electricity Department is a state welfare scheme.

Minister for Power, Nilesh Cabral said OTS scheme is launched with an aim to support the consumers in clearing of their long pending dues by paying only the principal amount and the delayed payment charges will be fully or partly waived off depending on the repayment period.

Cabral said  it is the first of its kind scheme introduced in the State, wherein all category of consumers, active consumers, temporarily disconnected/ permanently disconnected and are sent for revenue recovery cases consumers can avail benefits. There is also no limit on the outstanding dues pending for payments by the consumers to the department for availing the scheme, he added.
