Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced that nearly 2,500 government vacancies in the State will soon be filled through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), while highlighting that the private sector is simultaneously creating thousands of employment opportunities.
Speaking at a job fair organised by the Goa Human Resources Development Corporation, Sawant said the recruitment process for government posts will be conducted in a transparent manner. “Nearly 2500 posts would be advertised by SSC soon. The recruitments are been done in a transparent manner,” he said.
Sawant said that the examinations for these positions will be held shortly, with candidates able to view their results immediately after completing the test.
The Chief Minister also pointed to strong participation in the job fair, with more than 6,000 applicants and around 25 companies from the Verna Industrial Estate taking part. Interviews are already underway, and appointment letters for nearly 1300 selected candidates are expected to be issued by May 1.
Emphasising the importance of perseverance, Sawant encouraged young people to remain committed to their goals, sharing his own early career experience of working as a resident medical officer with a modest salary.
He further highlighted government initiatives aimed at boosting self-employment. These include low-interest loans offered by the Economic Development Corporation, with provisions that allow entrepreneurs to repay without interest if their ventures prove unviable within a stipulated period. Additionally, financial assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh is being provided under the IT department’s startup scheme.
Sawant also drew attention to emerging opportunities in sectors such as event management, urging Goan youth to take advantage of these prospects rather than allowing external agencies to dominate the space.
He also outlined parallel initiatives in skilling and employment. “We are ready to provide two to three-month training with stipends. Companies can offer on-the-job training, or we will facilitate it through the corporation,” he said.
Sawant stressed that private sector experience is now crucial. “Today, experience is compulsory even for government jobs like MTS and LDC. The experience gained here will be recognised and considered,” Sawant said, noting that candidates completing one year in the private sector will be given preference for certain government posts.
