The Public Works Department (PWD) has ordered the partial closure of a stretch of NH-66 in Porvorim to facilitate ongoing construction of the elevated corridor.

According to an official notification, the right-hand side (RHS) of the existing highway will remain closed from midnight of April 24 until May 20.

The affected stretch extends from the approach road near Neo Majestic Hotel to the vicinity of Gauri Petrol Pump.

The closure has been undertaken to ensure commuter safety and to enable smooth progress of the six-lane elevated corridor project along the busy highway. As part of the traffic management plan, vehicles travelling from Panaji towards Mapusa will be diverted via the left-hand side (LHS) service road near Neo Majestic Hotel.

Meanwhile, the connecting road from Pundalik Nagar near Delfinos junction will remain closed during this period.

Vehicles heading from Betim towards Mapusa will be allowed to use the existing RHS service road near Gauri Petrol Pump.

The order has been issued by Executive Engineer Gajanan Desai of the PWD (NH).

PWD officials said necessary arrangements would be put in place to provide safe access to local residents and commercial establishments along the affected stretch through designated entry and exit points.

Commuters have been advised to follow the diversion routes and exercise caution while travelling through the area.

Adequate signages, including diversion and no-parking boards, will be placed at key locations, along with necessary road safety measures as per prescribed guidelines.
