VALPOI
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane has strongly demanded in the assembly that the government resume discontinued bus services in Sattari taluka.
Rane appealed to Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to give special attention to the issue and provide KTC bus services on routes required to serve Sattari's rural areas.
Passenger bus services were previously available to several villages in Sattari taluka. However, over time, some services were discontinued, or the number of trips was reduced. As a result, residents of rural areas are facing considerable hardship.
Several villages in Sattari are located away from Valpoi town, requiring residents to travel to Valpoi or other major centres for access to markets, hospitals, government offices, banks and other essential services.
In the absence of regular public transport, residents are compelled to depend on private vehicles. Although private passenger buses have permits to operate on certain routes serving villages in the taluka, these buses do not regularly travel to some villages, with operators reportedly citing insufficient passenger numbers and lack of financial viability.
Rane has demanded that the government take the initiative to introduce KTC bus services in villages where private passenger buses do not operate regularly.
