The Margao Congress Block on Wednesday strongly objected to the construction of a road through government-acquired land adjoining the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium at Colmorod, Margao.
The flying squad was immediately called to the site, where officials inspected the area, took measurements, and took pictures/videos of the site and the vehicles dumping mud.
Alleging that the road was being built for the benefit of a private real estate development, Margao Block Congress convenor Savio Coutinho questioned how a 10-metre-wide road was permitted through government land for private real estate development.
Upon being informed by local residents that a paddy field near the indoor stadium was being filled with mud, Coutinho, along with Aziz Shah, Damodar Onskar, Lincoln Gomes, and Bonny Fernandes, visited the site to find a 10-metre-wide road being constructed through mud filling. Tipper trucks were also found dumping mud into a private paddy field.
The Margao Congress Block demanded the immediate stoppage of the filling work and further demanded criminal action against those responsible.
