A discussion on the proposed Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS) remained inconclusive at the Assagao gram sabha on Sunday, with several villagers expressing dissatisfaction over the explanations provided by officials.

The DRS team made a presentation on the scheme and demonstrated the functioning of the bottle collection machine. However, local resident Owen Braganza said many questions raised by villagers went unanswered, leaving confusion over the implementation of the scheme.

“The team gave a demonstration of the machine, but they were unable to satisfactorily answer several concerns raised by residents,” Braganza said.

According to him, villagers sought clarity on how consumers would receive refunds for returned bottles and were informed that payments would be made through UPI.

“Residents pointed out that many senior citizens do not own smartphones or use digital payment platforms. When asked how such people would receive their refunds, the DRS team had no clear answer,” he said.

Braganza added that several other queries also failed to receive adequate responses, leaving the issue unresolved.
