Water trickles as 100 MLD line runs dry
MARGAO
Madgavkars and Saxttikars in many areas received water in trickles in the last 24 hours due to some issues with the 100 MLD Selaulim water pipeline supplying water to South Goa.
A PWD Water Supply official said consumers were likely to receive restricted supply Wednesday night and Thursday morning as the 100 MLD line is virtually empty due to issues with pumping of water. “The PWD is on the job to rectify the fault. We understand that water came in trickles at many places in Salcete. The issue is expected to be resolved at the earliest,” the official said.
He added that water supply will resume only on Thursday since it takes hours for the water to reach Salcete from Selaulim.
Meanwhile, Margao Congress Block Convenor Savio Coutinho has said there has been a lack of water in Margao since Tuesday.
“We have been receiving complaints about water supply having been stopped from different locations around Margao. It appears that some areas connected to old lines are receiving water supply, while those on the new line are not. We have been following up with the department, only to get assurances of varied times for restoration of supply,” he said.
He added: “The PWD told us in the morning that the supply would be restored by evening today. Now they say it will still be late for actual restoration of supply. Maybe water will be available only at midnight or on Thursday morning.”
Questioning why the elected representatives are totally silent on the issue and are not making efforts to supply water via tankers to those in need, the Block Congress has demanded that the PWD Water Supply Department immediately provide water through tankers to the affected areas.
