The days of open dumping of garbage in Margao has finallycome to an end.
Fomento Green has kick-started garbage treatment process atSonsoddo, in an effort to manage the city garbage.
But by no means it’s the end of garbage woes in thecommercial city. A lot depends on the efforts of Margao Municipal Council andthe residents to ensure that the process to manage the garbage is carried outsmoothly.
Three days ahead of schedule, Fomento Green headed by CEOSridhar Kamat began collecting, sorting and treating of garbage in its newplant spread over an area of 53,000 sq meters.
“Our aerobic windrow composting (oxygen) method of SolidWaste Management Plant is divided into seven rows (windrow) in which garbageare piled on a daily basis. We have seven rows for seven days of the week. Thisgarbage passes through three levels of trommels before being converted intocompost over a period of eight weeks,” Kamat said.
Kamat narrating the words of the Fomento Green ChairmanAuduth Timblo, Kamat said: “We have brought the dying garbage baby back to theICU. The success of Sonsoddo will depend on its door-to-door garbagecollection.”
