Two policemen have been charged with sexually exploiting twoprostitutes and demanding protection money. The FIR registered at Goa Police’s crime branch atDona Paula is against head constable Vaman Naik and a constable. This follows a complaintregistered by Auda Viagas, a panel member under SDM for the rehabilitation ofrescued victims. Both were attached to the Calangute police station.
Viagas in her statement to the SDM said the two victims alleged that Vaman Naik andanother one constable had sexually abused them and used to take protectionmoney to work in their jurisdiction. Both girls are non-Goan, one of them isemployed in Goa, Auda informed. She added that she has taken the oralpermission from SDM to file a complaint.
One of the girl in her statement stated that these policeofficers were even exploiting transgenders in the Calangute area and she was aneyewitness. They have also said that most of their customers were policemenfrom the Calangute, Mapusa and Bicholim police stations. A pimp called Sham has been named as an agentbetween the police and the prostitutes in the complaint. There have beensimilar complaints against these two policemen in the past. The duo are still on duty and the Superintendent of PoliceNorth Goa Vijay Singh has said suspension is still under consideration. IO Sunita Sawant said the case was being investigated and arrestswould be possible only after the identification parade, she added.
