In an attempt to control growing unemployment in Kudal andits surrounding areas and to give boost to the industrial sector, thegovernment of Maharashtra had notified the Kudal Industrial Estate way back in1974.
The government had also acquired around 274.81 hectors offarm land.
For the last 39 years the land is still pending with theMaharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) while development of theindustrial estate is still awaited.
Even as youth from Sindhudurg district are migrating to Goa,Kolhapur and Mumbai in search of jobs, the government is least bothered aboutpromises made about the industrial estate in Kudal.
A company like Wyman Gordon had started its unit in Kudal,MIDC but unfortunately had to shut down its operation following protests fromworkers.
Out of 596 plots only 132 plots is being used by few of theindustries. Some have taken plots but are to start its units.
Way back in ’70s the government had acquired agriculturalland for the purpose of industrialization.
Since the government has failed to keep its promise thefarmers from Pinguli, Nerur and Kudal demanded that their return be returned ifthe government is not in a position to develop the area into an industrialestate.
The farmers have raised concern over government’s commitmentto solve the unemployment problem in the area.
“There are ample examples that many companies started unitsand shut them down immediately. Their intention was only to loot thegovernment’s subsidy,” said Datta Chauhan, a farmer from Kudal.
Kudal MIDC has been allotted B+ grade so that chemicalproduction and other chemical related units can be set up in the area. Butsurprisingly not a single unit has come up in MIDC Kudal.
