Congress split vertically into many factions Congress O, U, I, under various leaders and was hardpressed to retain identity of historical Indian National Congress. Indira Gandhi challenged the old guard and formed Indira National Congress. Finally the splinter groups merged with Indira National Congress as Indian National Congress with all its assets. The idea of dynasty and Gandhi family took a back seat. Now BJP agenda is Congress-mukt Bharat and it has directed a malicious campaign against them. Rahul has refused to take up leadership. Priyanka has shown no interest and Sonia has bowed out under health grounds but is forced to carry on.
Good luck to the new President, a Gandhi backed loyalist and Shashi Tharoor, a rank outsider trying to test the waters of dissent. Will electing the new president shut the BJP propaganda of dynasty, revise the fortune of sinking Congress or usher its demise? The sectional individuals do not command all-India respect and acceptance much less in their respective constituencies and geographical regions.
