In various parts of the State we come across streetlight fixtures functioning even during broad daylight. The prescribed on-off timings pertaining to streetlights are often overlooked and a large quantity of power supply gets wasted.
In and around Ponda there are several such instances. As September 16, fixtures were found functional near Shree Datta Mandir at 9.30 am and near Primary Health Centre at Galshirem at 9.45 am.
Similarly, on this very day, streetlights near Mahalaxminagar at Talaulim were found functional at 1.15pm. This is indeed a sorry state of affairs and needs to be immediately corrected.
Also on September 17, streetlight fixtures near old bus-stand were found functional at 8 am. The higher officials at the electricity department should take a note of this important matter and see to it that the concerned persons strictly oblige to the on-off timings pertaining to streetlights.
Those found overlooking the said timings should be taken to task without any discrimination. Making judicious use of the much precious power supply would indeed reduce our dependence on the neighbouring states for acquiring the same.
Let us hope that the electricity department accepts the challenge to achieve the desired results.
