Bridging healthcare divide in the country

It is heartening to witness the remarkable progress in medical excellence across Indian hospitals. Breakthrough surgeries and advanced treatments now performed in the country highlight India’s growing reputation as a global healthcare destination. However, this progress also exposes an uncomfortable truth. World-class medical care remains largely accessible to the affluent, while the poor and middle-class population continue to struggle in an uneven system where quality often depends on economic capacity rather than medical need. If India is to emerge as a truly inclusive healthcare leader, the government must implement affordable and comprehensive health-insurance policies for the poor and middle class, especially for expensive surgeries that are beyond the reach of the common citizen. Equally important is strengthening government hospitals so they can match private institutions in infrastructure, technology, and quality of care. Strong and affordable public health facilities will benefit the majority and promote healthy competition across the sector. Excellence in health care should never be a privilege for a few; it must become a national assurance rooted in compassion and equity.
