The recent incident in Colva has exposed disturbing trends within the police department. It appears that some police officials are crossing all limits to protect lawbreakers for the sake of money, acting against the interests of the Niz Goenkars and the general public. The incident where police entered the parish priest’s church office without prior information or any official government documents is a blatant display of authoritarian behaviour and "dadagiri." Such misconduct by a few officers tarnishes the reputation of the entire police force, making it difficult for honest policemen to gain the respect they deserve. When the police act against the very people they are supposed to protect, who can the citizens of Goa trust or turn to for help? Today, it seems the police are being used not to uphold law and order but to file false cases and harass innocent citizens. Political interference has made police officials immune to transfers or punishment, especially when they enjoy the blessings of corrupt ministers. We urge the authorities to take immediate action to restore the integrity and credibility of the police force, ensuring they serve as true public servants rather than goons.
