The peaceful all India agitation of farmers, one of the biggest democratic protests in the world, clearly showed the attitude of the farmers. On the other side their benevolent government masters who have the majority in Parliament, did all they could to scuttle the protests.
I fail to understand what was the need to quickly bulldoze these drastic new laws without discussion or parliamentary committee to consult them? The farmers felt the laws were more dangerous to their livelihood than Covid.
They gave a notice to the government for their protest, but government ignored them. So they marched peacefully to Delhi, thousands of them. The government met them at the State borders with barbed wires, barricades, trenches and when that did not work, used water cannons and tear gas shells.
Coming to Goa, the High Court has mercifully quashed the construction licence of the Tanmar transmission project.
One illegality after another. The Mollem project was technically cleared by TCP and the Sarpanch who had no power to issue licence did so without a resolution in the Gram Sabha for such a big environmentally destructive project!
It amazes me how the BJP can short-circuit all checks and balances and take the courts for granted these days. Our CM is reportedly gung ho that project will be cleared. Hope better sense prevails.
