'Coming events cast their shadow' , it is said. If this is so, then the spectacular hat-trick pulled off by the BJP in the Hindi heartland is a sure sign of what lies in store for the Congress in the 2024 general elections, with the all pervading Modi magic. Let us also not forget that anti-incumbency, power struggle and corruption were factors that also proved detrimental to the Congress ruled states of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. And, had it not been for the fight for power between Chief Minister Ashok Ghelot and Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan and the Mahadev betting scam in Chhattisgarh, involving Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, things might have been different. Punjab was likewise lost to AAP, and Karnataka was on the brink because of the fight for the chief ministers' 'kursi'. What a shame that the Congress is unable to hold on to power, despite being the oldest national party. What it needs now is someone of the calibre of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to settle scores and crack the whip on dissenting elected members to bring in party discipline and stop the infighting.
