Through your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw attention to the pressing need for sustainable development in Goa as we approach its 60th Liberation Day. While modernisation has brought prosperity, it also poses a threat to the state’s rich cultural and natural heritage. The unregulated construction of resorts, deforestation, and overcrowding in tourist areas have disrupted Goa’s ecological and cultural balance. To preserve the essence of Goa, I propose: promoting eco-tourism and encouraging travellers to engage with local communities; implementing stricter regulations on construction and mining activities; educating citizens and tourists about sustainable practices through awareness campaigns. As we celebrate this historic milestone, let us also recognise the responsibility we share in protecting Goa’s legacy. I urge the government and citizens to work together toward a harmonious balance between progress and preservation.
