In a tragic accident a 65-year old woman pillion rider reportedly died in a road accident at Ambelim after her dupatta accidentally got entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle as a result of which she fell on the road and sustained grievous injuries. It must be said that while riding or even pillion-riding a two-wheeler extreme care should be taken with regards to the type of clothing that is worn. Wearing loose clothes is a no-no. In the case of a vehicle having spoked-wheels and especially exposed drive chains, the danger becomes quite evident. Many women riding two-wheelers wear their scarves loose and casually. This is a clear invitation to accidents as the long, loose shawl can easily get into the running wheel or due to the wind it can temporarily obstruct one’s vision. Those riding two-wheelers should not wear their dress loose and long, whether it is salwar-kameez or sari, especially women pillion riders who have babies in their laps. Women pillion riders should be particularly careful about their sari ends or shawls.
