Safer digital environment now a basic requirement

Australia’s ban on social media for children under 16 should nudge India to rethink how we can protect young users online. With increasing cases of cyber bullying, gaming fraud and mental-health issues, parents here often feel helpless while tech platforms escape accountability. While a full ban may not suit India, strict age verification, time limits and digital-awareness programmes can help reduce risks. Childhood should not be shaped by constant scrolling and online comparison. A safer digital environment is now a basic requirement, not an optional reform.
