Saturday night fear by Goa Police

On Saturday night, 15th February, the Goa police undertook a special drive to look out for and book violations on the roads. The police netted 591 persons for traffic infringements, 56 for drunk driving and riding, inspected 1,220 vehicles, 160 people were booked for smoking and spitting in public and rounded several persons for verifications. A total of 658 personnel from the District Police, Traffic, Indian Reserve Battalion and Goa Reserved Police were deployed across Goa. The operation was supervised in the field by the Director General of Police and his senior colleagues.

We congratulate the police for having undertaken the special drive against the lawbreakers. It would be appreciated if this exercise is carried out regularly, if not every day, so that instead of creating fear only on some Saturdays the offenders would have a daily fear while the law-abiding citizens would heave a sigh of relief. This process would entail the much-required recruitment in an otherwise under-staffed and overworked police force. Hope the government expedites the matter, before the upcoming Assembly election and score brownie points by way of providing employment and safety and security to the people.
