When one looks into the history of Kala Academy it all started in June 1975. The building was completed and handed over to the government in November 1983. During the first monsoon, DMK auditorium raft fails and ground water floods it. In September 1986, Central Public Works Department stated very clearly that the design and supervision was cause for the leakage. In December 2017, Kala Academy authorities request for restoration and structural upgradation. On July 18, 2019, inspite of the GEC report, Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude proposes partial demolition. On May 3, 2021 government appoints consultant TECTON for repair and renovation work. Work commences soon after with no tender process. On September 28, 2022 Directorate of Vigilance recommends probe into allegations of corruption in repair work. On August 8, 2022, Gaude conducts site inspection. On October 20, 2022 Chief Minister Pramod Sawant denies a scam and says all procedures were followed while granting renovation work. The chief minister should be ashamed of the truth behind the KA collapse, and he, Govind Gaude and Nilesh Cabral should resign and walk out gracefully.
