The Shahjahan model of awarding contracts without tenders to favour certain contractors is burdening taxpayers. Recently, a Rs 47 lakh contract was given to an agency to clear debris after the Kala Academy amphitheatre roof collapse. Rumours suggest Rs 10 crores is allocated to renovate the refurbished Kala Academy, highlighting a lack of fiscal prudence. The building, inaugurated last November after a Rs 70 crore refurbishment, already faces issues like roof leaks, ceiling collapses, and poor acoustics. The Culture Minister has denied responsibility, blaming the PWD instead.
The BJP’s development model seems focused on self-interest. Despite calls to sack the responsible minister, the government remains inactive. All civil projects appear to be profit-making schemes for officials, with public interest neglected. The state government might as well blame Shahjahan for the mismanagement.ion and misappropriation of public funds have marked the government’s tenure. The Panaji’s Smart City project is a continual drain on resources. Revenue Minister and Panaji MLA Babush has warned of city flooding due to incomplete stormwater drain work, despite promises of full completion by 31st May. The legacy of this government is one of corruption and waste.
