Many a times we see tourists zipping on the roads of Goa on hired two-wheelers that is weighed down with a family of three-five persons. This is against the road rules yet, they manage to get away from the hawk-eyed traffic cops who penalise the locals for not wearing helmets. The other type of tourists is those who rent a cab (that may be registered or not registered with the transport department) and drive like crazy.
The most dangerous are those who drink and drive and may not even have a driving license. The moot points are: why cannot the tourists behave themselves when in Goa? Would they dare to repeat such offenses in their States? It would be practical if a family of more than 3 members make use of sight-seeing and hop-on hop-off buses run by the government and private operators instead of overloading the two-wheelers and risking their lives.
Similarly, instead of hiring self-drive cars and driving dangerously and along unknown roads, by-lanes and on the beaches, the tourists could enjoy the sceneries from the buses. Agreed that hiring vehicles is fun, saves time and one can visit selected or more spots but considering safety and comfort the visitors could travel in tourists’ buses. This would also be lighter on their pockets and help reduce pollution to some extent.
