Delimitation and unequal power balance

The population in the North of India, especially the BIMARU states, has grown much more rapidly than in the Southern states. Far from punishing overpopulation in the North and rewarding the control of population in the South, the Government aims to do the reverse through delimitation. It will reassign seats based on population and increase the seats proportionally in the North in line with that increase in population. This means that the North, which is backward in every way, will wield more power than the South in Parliament. This also means that the BJP, in spite of having near zero clout in the South, will still wield disproportionate power by winning Northern states. This divisive bill would be detrimental to the country and is absolutely unacceptable. The opposition should hit the ground running and mobilise public opinion if we are to defeat this abomination.
